Product information "Eggersmann Maisflocken 15kg"
Maize broken down by steam heating for the energy-rich upgrading of feed rations for animals with increased performance requirements or weakened animals
Compared to other cereals, maize grains are particularly rich in starch, but tend to contain lower amounts of protein. However, the unprocessed, dried maize grain is not easily digestible for most animals such as horses, rabbits and rodents and the organism cannot break down the valuable starch from the grain well.
We therefore process our maize kernels into crunchy, golden yellow maize flakes using gentle steam heating. On the one hand, this changes the structure of the maize, which is easier to absorb and chew, and on the other, the combination of heat and steam breaks down the starch in the grain, pre-digesting it, so to speak. The animal can now absorb the majority of the starch via the small intestine and convert it into energy.
Due to the low protein content, maize flakes are ideal for animals that are prone to certain liver or kidney problems or that are no longer able to metabolise large amounts of protein so well in old age, but lose weight quickly. Protein and energy rating for horses.

for horses:
Due to the high energy density in combination with the content of valuable fatty acids and carotenoids, maize flakes are often fed to sport and breeding horses to enhance the feed ration in addition to sufficient roughage.
As an alternative to oats, 0.8kg of maize flakes can replace 1kg of oats.
For energy supply with protein-reduced feeding in the case of liver insufficiency and kidney diseases with high urea levels in the blood plasma
for chickens and other poultry breeds:
For energy enhancement and for the supply of essential fatty acids and carotenoids in feed mixtures for laying hens and parent stock, whereby compliance with the crude fibre content in the feed ration must be taken into account.
Supports good pigmentation of the egg yolk.
In pullet feed, we recommend limiting the incorporation rate of maize flakes to a maximum of 30% in order to prevent undesirable fat formation and increased fat deposits in the ovaries.
We also recommend a maximum of 30% maize flakes in the feed ration for waterfowl in order to prevent the detrimental formation of fat.
for small animals:
Corn flakes should only be fed to rabbits and rodents in moderation or in phases with increased energy requirements, such as to feed weakened animals.
This is because the digestive tract of our little pets is not designed for a high starch and energy content in their food, which is why too much corn can quickly lead to obesity and metabolic problems in the long term.
As a change to the daily feed ration, we recommend mixing 1 tsp of corn flakes into the feed ration once or twice a week or "hiding" it in the hay/fresh bedding.
This stimulates the animals' activity and foraging behaviour.
